The Isley Brothers & Brenda Holloway
The Isley Brothers & Brenda Holloway - Why When Love Is Gone / Can't Hold The Feeling Back (Deptford Northern Soul Club Records)
Format: 7" Single
Cat No: DNSCR009
Two Motown classics from 1966 / 67:
The Isley Brothers’ flipside to ‘Take Me In Your Arms (Rock Me A Little While)’ - ‘Why When Love Is Gone’ (written by Ivy Hunter) comes with a rollicking Tamla backbeat and an anthemic fist punching heartbreaking chorus line. Released in 1967 in the UK.
The flipside features the previously unreleased on 7” ‘Can’t Hold Back The Feeling’, recorded in 1966 by the enigmatic Brenda Holloway. A string-driven slice of euphoric soul, it features Brenda’s deep soulful croon (which hit big with ‘Every Little But Hurts’) on an emphatic stomper.
